Decompressing a File

If you have downloaded a logo or an illustration that is supplied in EPS format, you may need to decompress the file before you can use it. Below are instructions for decompressing these files using StuffIt for the Macintosh and WinZip for Windows.

Mac

  1. Open StuffIt Expander. An integral tool for decompressing a wide variety of file types, Stuffit Expander is often included with other software packages. If you're having trouble locating the program, search for it via the Mac OS Finder (Cmd + F). If you cannot find it on your system, download it from http://www.aladdinsys.com/expander/
  2. From the StuffIt menu, choose File > Expand.
  3. In the dialog box, navigate to the folder where the file you want to decompress resides. Double-click on the file, or highlight it and click Open.
  4. You will see a dialog box with a progress bar. When it is finished you will find your decompressed file in the same location as the original compressed file.
Windows

  1. Open the WinZip program from the Start menu. If it is not in the Start menu, go to Find > Files and Folders... and type in "WinZip". If you cannot find it on your system, download it from http://www.winzip.com/
  2. From the WinZip menu, choose File > Open Archive and navigate to the folder where the file you want to decompress resides
  3. When the file opens, you will see all included files in the WinZip window.
  4. Click the Extract button and choose a folder in which to place your files.
  5. Once you have selected your folder, click the Extract button.
  6. Your files are now decompressed and sitting in the folder you specified.
